France's leading fishing port

Despite a decline in French auction sales in volume and value, Boulogne-sur-Mer held first place as France's leading fishing port in tonnage and in value. Thierry Missonnier, director of the FromNord producer organisation and of the Aquimer cluster, explains how the port modernised over time.

An organisation behind the fleet

• FromNord federates more than 160 vessels across Hauts-de-France, Normandy and the Bay of Biscay
• Both deep-sea and small-scale coastal fishing are represented
• Modernisation covered the auction hall, cold chain and digital sales tools

The challenges ahead

Renewing the fleet, attracting crews, adapting to quota and sustainability constraints and continuing to digitalise sales are the port's stated priorities for the coming years.
